The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL] novel Chapter 746

Chapter 746: The Crater

Ollie’s head whipped from side to side so fast that even Jax was starting to get dizzy just watching him.

The self-proclaimed "Official Rear Lookout of the Group" had taken his new title with absolute seriousness. Every three seconds, his bright blond mop of hair would spin in a different direction, scanning the forest behind them as if he were guarding a priceless artifact—though, technically, he was protecting his own neck.

After all, after almost getting decapitated by a flying tusk the size of a small boat, priorities tended to shift dramatically.

"Look, I’ll do it!" he’d declared earlier, clutching his head like a soldier who had seen the void. "I’ll be the lookout! The back is mine! No one’s touching the back!"

Kyle had raised an eyebrow. "That’s... unusually enthusiastic of you."

"Well," Ollie muttered, puffing his cheeks and crossing his arms, "it’s called trauma."

Because the poor mechanic hadn’t even been doing anything wrong when it happened. He was simply choosing rocks that D-64 may want as souvenirs when whoosh! A monstrous tusk had flown past his head close enough to slice off all inches from his precious antenna.

Had he not leaned down to pick his chosen stone, he could have been so much shorter—for who knows how long?! What if it never grew back?!

The blonde’s reaction was delayed, but he had screamed like someone getting murdered in surround sound.

The moment Kyle caught him mid-dive, Ollie decided that he was never leaving his boyfriend’s arms again.

And thus, the traumatized blond returned to his roots, nestled comfortably against his human shield, and began the sacred mission of looking behind them, volunteering to keep his eyes o...pen...

Except, well...

"..."

To be fair, Ollie did manage for a good thirty minutes. He scanned left, then right, then left again, even dramatically narrowed his eyes once or twice like a true professional.

But after that, his head lolled to the side, his lips parted, and he was out cold.

A heroic nap for a man who’d truly given it his all.

Life was simply too hard for a mechanic who had only wanted to build pretty things and maybe discharge a few bombs, not dodge incoming monster appendages.

Besides, how could he run like the rest of them? Everyone else practically floated when they moved. Meanwhile, he would have to trudge along like a regular person with functioning bones.

Okay, well, not really because Kyle would be using his spiritual energy on him too as a supplement, but then wouldn’t that just double the work for his poor man?

Also, if he ran, wouldn’t that just slow everyone down? In his mind, staying still and "observant" would be a better use for his abilities.

Then again, one adjutant liked that better, because by carrying him around, there would be fewer roots to watch out for, and fewer chances of them expediting their turn to meet their maker.

And when his little star slept peacefully, there was really no better feeling.

But considering his ability to nap anywhere, one could just imagine the manual transport’s surprise when he felt the blonde stir after so short a time.

"Brother, are we there yet?" the sleepy blond mumbled, half-yawning, half-gesturing weakly toward the path while still being carried in Kyle’s arms like a front pack.

Luca blinked and then asked D-29, "D-29, are we close?"

"Host!" the little system’s voice replied brightly in his mind. "We just have to go by that cliff! It should be under it!"

"Under it?" Luca repeated.

Well, apparently, "under" was an understatement.

Because when they reached the area, the group found themselves standing on what looked like the broken edge of the world.

The cliffside stretched outward like a thin, uneven plank of rock—cracked and jagged, as though someone had scooped out half of the land and hurled it into the sea.

Below them, the world opened into a massive crater-like basin, and the faint roar of waves echoed as the tide lapped at the crater’s edge.

In truth, from where they were standing, it would’ve been difficult to really understand what they were looking at. However, D-29 then apparently instructed them to examine the projection, and the aerial view provided a significantly clearer picture.
