The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 793

"Does she even know Dad is in the hospital?"

At the mention of Tamara's name, Zadie's crying came to an abrupt halt. Her eyes darted away guiltily. She lowered her head and dabbed at her eyes with a tissue, offering no immediate answer.

But the moment the name left Zeus's lips, Hackett’s eyes snapped open. His chest began to heave erratically once more. "Don't you dare mention that ungrateful wretch!"

Hackett’s raspy voice was dripping with venom and utter disgust.

Zeus and Clive exchanged a bewildered look. Growing up, Tamara had been the golden child, the apple of Hackett's eye. What on earth had happened to warrant such absolute hatred?

The truth was, every ounce of privilege and love Hackett had poured into Tamara over the years was now drowning him in regret.

Gasping for breath, Hackett forced the words out through gritted teeth. "We raised her, gave her everything! Before she got married, she played the part of the perfect, devoted daughter so flawlessly. Think of how much we sacrificed to ensure she married into the Sherwood family! And what does she do? The second we hit a crisis, she hides out in her mansion, playing the untouchable rich wife."

He slammed a weak fist against the mattress. "She won't even pick up the phone! She’s probably in on it with Fitch Sherwood, just waiting to pick over our bones!"

If he had known she would turn out like this, he would have sent her back to the countryside years ago. Maybe then, his relationship with his biological daughter wouldn't have been destroyed beyond repair.

Zeus frowned, sensing the situation was more complex than a simple betrayal. Hackett had always favored Tamara, yes. But Tamara's standing in the Sherwood family wasn't exactly secure. Because of what she had done to Yvonne in the past, the Sherwoods despised her.
