The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 789

The doctor let out a heavy sigh. "If this happens a second time, you need to be prepared for the worst. Even if you bring him in immediately, we likely won't be able to save him."

He didn't sugarcoat it, and the reality of his unfinished sentence landed like a physical blow on Josiah and Zadie.

Seeing their utter devastation, the doctor quickly offered a shred of comfort. "That is the absolute worst-case scenario. You don't need to panic immediately. If he focuses on his recovery and avoids any sources of stress or anger, the risk can be managed. But if he pushes himself again, it will be fatal."

Zadie broke down completely, collapsing against Josiah's chest in agonizing sobs.

"How did it come to this... You can't leave me... you just can't..."

Josiah held his mother, his heart feeling like it had been crushed under a boulder. He looked at the doctor, his voice raspy. "Thank you. We understand. We will do everything in our power to keep him stable."

The doctor nodded sympathetically. "He's being moved to the Cardiac ICU for observation. You won't be able to visit him tonight. Go home, get some sleep, and wash up. You can come back in the morning."

After the doctor left, Zadie continued to weep, her fingers digging into Josiah's arm. "Josiah... what are we going to do? If your father dies... what happens to me? What happens to our family? We're going to lose everything..."

Josiah felt a suffocating wave of frustration and helplessness. He gently patted her back, offering hollow reassurances.

"Mom, please stop crying. He survived, didn't he? The doctor said he'll be fine as long as we keep his stress levels down."
