Hackett paused, uncharacteristically keeping his temper in check over his son's suggestion. Instead, he patted Josiah's shoulder in relief and spoke with deep sincerity.
"Josiah, in this family, you are the person I trust and value the most. Zeus and Clive are unreliable, so the Sloan family can only depend on you. I'm leaving this matter in your hands. Keep a close eye on it. If there is any abnormal situation with the Sherwood family, report back to me."
Although Hackett didn't genuinely believe Fitch would scheme against him, he had at least caught a vulnerability in the Sherwood family. It made him feel much less anxious.
Josiah didn't expect to accomplish everything in one fell swoop. At the very least, after this incident, Hackett no longer trusted Fitch as blindly as before, leaving his defenses completely down.
Josiah and Hackett chatted a bit more about other company matters, and the night peacefully passed.
Meanwhile, ever since the Sloan family learned that Tamara was pregnant, her treatment at home had skyrocketed.
Perhaps frightened by the previous scene of Tamara bleeding, Zadie prepared a variety of nourishing soups for her every day. Hackett also returned to the doting father he was before she got married, treating her with gentle kindness and care. Even the household staff were extra careful around Tamara, afraid of upsetting the family’s new prized favorite.
In just a few short days, Tamara's complexion had become much rosier, and her lost vitality was fully restored. Her previously gaunt cheeks from her hospital stay gradually filled out, and she looked remarkably healthier.
That afternoon, as usual, Tamara lounged lazily on the recliner on the balcony, soaking up the sun. Maybe life had gotten a little too comfortable, because she finally remembered someone she hadn’t thought about in a long time.
Carola Conner.
Ever since the last time Tamara visited the Conner family, was chased out by them, and fled in a panic, the two hadn't contacted each other. She wondered if Carola was still being locked up by Lance Conner.
