"It suits you perfectly," Callahan said, his voice dropping to a husky whisper as his warm breath brushed against her ear.
Leilani met his intense gaze through the mirror, keeping her tone completely steady. "Let's just go with this one."
Callahan looked surprised. "You don't want to try on any others?"
Leilani shook her head. "There's no need."
She honestly thought this dress was more than enough.
The boutique manager eagerly chimed in with praises. "Ms. Sloan has such a beautifully serene aura. This gown is incredibly elegant but still has so much personality. It truly is a match made in heaven for you."
Callahan shifted his attention back to the manager. "Make sure the matching jewelry and heels are prepped as well."
The manager nodded profusely. "Everything is ready exactly as you instructed earlier, Mr. Langley. They are all flawless complementary pieces for Ms. Sloan's gown."
Three days later.
The Langley Group's annual gala took place right on schedule within the Langley family's lavish banquet hall.
Massive crystal chandeliers refracted brilliant, dazzling light, while a towering champagne fountain sparkled brilliantly in the center of the room. The guests were dressed to the nines, exchanging pleasantries and toasting glasses, their collective attention eventually drawn to the main stage.
Callahan, wearing an impeccable black bespoke suit, stood before the microphone. A faint smile graced his lips, and his deep voice rang out clearly across the room. "Thank you all for attending the Langley Group's year-end celebration."
He paused for a brief moment, his gaze sweeping over the massive crowd. A distinct glimmer of anticipation shone in his eyes. "Tonight, I would like to introduce someone who is incredibly important to me."
The entire hall instantly fell dead silent. Guests eagerly exchanged bewildered and curious glances. Who on earth could make Callahan introduce them with such solemn formality?
After all, Callahan's reputation as the ruthless "Ice King" of Alloy City's corporate world was legendary. No one could quite believe that this cold-blooded CEO was capable of showing such public tenderness.
Every single pair of eyes in the venue swiveled toward the entrance of the banquet hall.
Down below, a few business tycoons who had personally witnessed Callahan fiercely defend Leilani in the past leaned in to whisper among themselves, sporting knowing smiles.
"Could Mr. Langley be introducing that Ms. Sloan from last time?"
"Mr. Langley has indeed been seen getting quite close to the Sloan family's daughter recently."
"The Sloan family? Wait, which Sloan family?"
