Before Tamara left, she stared deeply at Josiah for a long time. However, seeing that he genuinely had no intention of acknowledging her, she could only walk away in frustrated disappointment.
What she didn't see was that the moment she turned and closed the door behind her, Josiah raised his head as if on cue. His deep gaze, hidden behind his glasses, locked onto her retreating figure, his mind clearly calculating something.
...
Dinner time rolled around.
Tamara sat at the dining table, staring at the delicious meal spread before her, yet she had absolutely no appetite. But remembering Josiah's harsh reprimand from that afternoon, she knew that showing her discomfort now would only raise his suspicions.
Suppressing the churning in her stomach, she poked at her food with a fork. She had tried to gather the courage to force a bite down, but after psyching herself up for ages, she still couldn't swallow a single mouthful.
Though Tamara tried to be discreet, Zadie still noticed her daughter's strange behavior. Frowning, she glanced at her. "What's wrong, Tamara? Is the food not to your liking tonight?"
Tamara forced a strained smile and shook her head. "No, the food is great. I just haven't had much of an appetite lately... I'm just not hungry."
The moment the words left her mouth, a surge of bile rushed up her throat. Her face turned pale, and she immediately slapped a hand over her mouth, bolting from the table and rushing toward the nearest bathroom.
A loud retching sound echoed from the bathroom, instantly plunging the dining room into silence.
Josiah put down his fork, his sharp gaze darting toward the hallway.
This didn't seem to be the first time Tamara had thrown up since she moved back in with the Sloans. It was just that everyone had been so preoccupied with their own issues lately, running around endlessly every day, that no one had paid much attention to her odd behavior.
If he hadn't happened to be home for dinner tonight, he probably wouldn't have noticed her abnormal reactions either.
