Josiah watched helplessly as projects were poached one by one, causing long-time shareholders and investors to withdraw their capital. He had been overwhelmingly busy trying to stop the bleeding, yet no one in the Sloan family seemed capable of giving him peace of mind.
Tamara was still lingering at home, refusing to return to the Sherwoods, which was headache enough.
Josiah had originally hoped that once Clive sorted out his career issues, he could use the savings he’d accumulated as a top star to help inject liquidity into the family business. Instead, the news today was a bombshell: Clive was facing a three hundred million dollar breach of contract fee.
That amount could bring a small company back from the dead. If injected into the Sloan family business, it could have tided them over this crisis. But instead of an asset, Clive had brought them a liability.
The realization made Josiah's chest tighten, suffocating him with rage.
"Speak! What do you plan to do now?" Josiah’s voice trembled with suppressed violence. "The entire industry is laughing at the Sloan family! Do you think your messy private life is just your problem? You've dragged the entire family into the mud!"
Clive gripped his phone, his knuckles turning white. "Those scandals were released by the company on purpose, I didn't—"
"Who cares if it's true or false?" Josiah cut him off sharply. "Do you think the entertainment industry cares about evidence or justice?"
The sound of a glass slamming onto a desk came through the line, followed by Josiah's heavy, ragged breathing. "Get your ass back here immediately! We have a mess of problems to clean up at home, and you're out there humiliating us?"
