The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 399

As the man who had helmed the Langley Group for decades, Dante saw through Reese's petty schemes with perfect clarity. And Talbot was an expert at pretending to be the good guy. The couple was playing a classic "good cop, bad cop" routine. Did they really think he was so old and senile that he couldn't see it?

Letty let out a cold laugh, speaking bluntly even in front of Dante. "Aren't they just afraid that once Leilani joins the family, our side will become even more powerful? Too bad for them. The more they act out, the more Dad favors us."

Dante glared at her playfully. "Nonsense! I help reason, not kin!"

Letty pouted sarcastically. "Yes, yes, you are the most impartial person in the world."

Leilani listened to their banter and couldn't help but chuckle.

People always said rich families were full of undercurrents, and after today, she certainly understood why.

However, if Reese thought Leilani was a soft persimmon she could easily squash, she was sorely mistaken.

Leilani would let it slide today. Dante and Letty had already stood up for her. If she pushed further now, it would seem ungracious.

But... if Talbot's family dared to provoke her in the future, she wouldn't mind showing them what it felt like to kick an iron plate.

Dante set down his cup, smiling as he changed the subject. "Alright. Let's go eat! Leilani, tonight's menu is full of your favorites. You must eat plenty!"

Letty affectionately took Leilani's arm to help her up. "Leilani, let's go. You've gotten so thin lately; we need to fatten you up tonight!"

Leilani nodded obediently and followed Letty to the dining room.

Talbot narrowed his eyes. "Stop worrying about that. Dante is fond of her right now. You've already annoyed him once today; do it again, and you'll cross the line."

The meal ended in this strange mix of warmth and suppressed hostility. After dinner, seeing it was late, Leilani proposed leaving to return home.

Since the night was advanced, Dante needed to wash up and rest, and at Leilani's insistence, he didn't walk them out. Letty held Leilani's hand, personally escorting her to the main gate.

Once there, Letty lowered her voice. "Leilani, I'm sorry we didn't host you properly today. You suffered unfairness. Don't pay attention to them. With me here, they can't stir up any waves. Another day, I'll call Libby and Judie, and we will go out and have a proper chat."

Leilani smiled, assuring her she hadn't taken the incident to heart.

Callahan stood by the car, speaking coolly. "Mom, it's late. We need to go."
