Inside the clinic, the morning light was just beginning to filter through. Leilani had just pushed open the wooden doors when a clear, laughing voice called out from behind her.

"Dr. Sloan! Good morning!"

She turned to see Hale Cheney striding toward her. His short, curly hair caught the pale gold of the sunlight, and his deep, sharp features were lit up with a brilliant smile.

Behind him walked an elderly man, appearing to be around seventy. He had a lean, upright figure and was dressed in a modest, grey button-down shirt and slacks. A pair of thin-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, giving him a refined, scholarly air. He was the complete opposite of Hale’s exuberant energy.

Leilani’s gaze lingered on the old man for a second before she nodded at Hale. "You’re here early today."

For a while, Leilani had been running back and forth between Mr. Chilton and Arnold, causing Hale’s follow-up appointments to be delayed for quite some time. As soon as Leilani’s schedule cleared up, she had immediately notified Hale to come in for a check-up.

Hale leaned in with a grin. Although he hadn't seen Leilani in a while, his tone remained just as familiar as before. "Of course! I brought my grandfather along specially for this!"
