Lance stood beside her, his expression complicated. He had been searching tirelessly for doctors for Felicity, but the results were always the same. Most were charlatans whose skills were nowhere near Leilani's.
Sighing, Lance reported the recent situation. "Grandma, I've contacted several specialists at Bilevel Hospital. They all say your condition requires long-term management. It's hard to cure in a short time. You still need to keep taking your medicine. I've noticed that the prescription Leilani gave you provided some relief."
The old woman closed her eyes, her tone weary. "The medication is too slow. Although my legs have improved somewhat, they still ache at night. If we hadn't offended Leilani back then, perhaps..."
Her chronic pain would have been cured by now.
At the mention of Leilani, Lance's eyes darkened.
He had attended Tamara's wedding. The farce that unfolded there had made him realize that Leilani might have been wrongly accused all along. It was very likely that everything Carola did to antagonize Leilani had been orchestrated by Tamara from behind the scenes. After all, his sister was very close to Tamara.
"Lance, do you think... Carola actually did something terrible to Leilani in private?" Felicity asked suddenly.
Lance fell silent for a moment before bringing up what happened at the wedding. "Grandma, on the day of the wedding..."
Listening to Lance's account, Felicity's eyes snapped open. "That Sloan girl is truly that vicious? To marry into the Sherwood family, she'd sacrifice her own sister and sister-in-law? And what about Carola? Was she used by Tamara too?"
Lance nodded gravely. "I suspect so. Grandma, you know Carola. We've protected and spoiled her since she was little. She's arrogant, but she's actually quite simple-minded and easily manipulated. Tamara kept her close; she likely whispered things in her ear constantly."
Felicity's face darkened, and she slapped the armrest of her chair. "I knew it! Carola is willful, but she wouldn't harm someone for no reason! It was Tamara pulling the strings!"
