Callahan looked at her slightly tense profile and smiled. “If you get scared later, remember to hold on to me tightly.”
To Leilani’s ears, Callahan’s sweet words sounded like a challenge. She let out a soft huff and shot him a sideways glance, looking both feisty and proud. “That’s hard to say. Maybe I won’t react at all, and you’ll be the one who’s scared?”
However, when the roller coaster slowly climbed to the highest point and then plunged downwards, Leilani instinctively grabbed Callahan’s hand. She didn’t scream. The intense sensation of weightlessness made her heart stop for a second, and her fingers tightened unconsciously.
Callahan squeezed her hand back, his palm warm and strong.
The wind roared, and screams rose and fell all around them, but Leilani could only feel the warmth from his fingertips. It was reassuring.
When the roller coaster stopped, Leilani’s hair was a bit messy from the wind, and her cheeks were flushed with excitement.
Callahan raised his hand to fix her hair, chuckling low. “How was it?”
“Not bad.” Leilani took a deep breath, her usually cool and calm eyes shining with brilliance. The corners of her lips curled up as she felt her heart rate slowly returning to normal.
Callahan looked at her sparkling eyes and suddenly felt that this version of Leilani was even more vivid than usual. It was hard to look away.
Over the next few hours, the two of them went on almost every ride in the park. They rode the carousel, the Ferris wheel, and even took a turn through the haunted house.
On the carousel, Leilani sat on a white horse and looked back at Callahan, who was standing outside the railing. She couldn’t help but smile. “You’re not riding?”
Callahan stood with one hand in his pocket, holding a camera in the other as he snapped a photo of her. “I’m fine just watching you.”
Leilani’s ears grew hot, and she turned her face away. “...Suit yourself.”
In the haunted house, Leilani walked calmly in front while Callahan followed behind. Suddenly, a “ghost” blocked their path.
