The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 249

Callahan put away his phone and looked at her with a faint smile. "So, do you like the bags?"

Leilani narrowed her eyes, suddenly realizing the man was teasing her. After all, if Callahan had truly believed Micah's nonsense, his reaction wouldn't be like this.

To get back at Callahan for pulling her into his house while she wasn't paying attention, Leilani huffed softly and deliberately said, "I like them quite a bit. Micah's taste seems to be better than yours; the bags he picked fit my aesthetic perfectly."

Callahan's eyes darkened. Although he knew Leilani was joking just to provoke him, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. He took a step forward, backing Leilani against the wall. He propped one hand beside her ear, his voice low and husky. "Leilani, what did you say? His taste is better than mine?"

Leilani looked up at his face, which was inches from hers. Her heart beat slightly faster, but she remained calm on the surface. "Yes. Why? Are you jealous, Mr. Langley?"

Callahan stared at her for two seconds, then suddenly smiled. "Yeah, I am."

His admitting it so bluntly actually stunned Leilani for a moment. Seeing that it was getting late, she realized the most important thing she had to do today still wasn't done. She hadn't given him the gift yet because Callahan kept messing around with her!

Leilani pursed her lips, took the small watch box out of her pocket, and nervously shoved it into his chest. "...This is for you."

Callahan was startled. He took the box and opened it. Inside lay a mechanical watch with a deep blue dial, understated yet exquisite. He looked up at her. "For me?"

Leilani looked away, feigning a casual tone. "Yeah. I saw your watch strap was getting old, so I just bought one while I was out. Consider it an apology for falling asleep during our date yesterday."

The smile in Callahan's eyes grew deeper. Suddenly, he pulled her into his arms and held her tight. Leilani was caught off guard. Her cheek pressed against his chest, and she could clearly hear his strong heartbeat.

"Leilani," he whispered in her ear. "Thank you. I love it."

Leilani's ears burned. She reached out to push him. "I'm glad you like it, but let go of me first."

Instead of letting go, Callahan hugged her even tighter, chuckling low. "No. This is the first time you've given me a gift."
