So... the only suspects left were the group responsible for poisoning Mr. Chilton.
Leilani tapped her finger lightly on the steering wheel, her eyes darkening. She had originally assumed Mr. Chilton was just a high-ranking official within the establishment with some influence.
Now, it seemed things weren't that simple.
...
Upon returning home, Leilani went straight to her computer and logged into the dark web. She entered keywords, attempting to find information related to the establishment and the Chilton family. However, the search results were scarce. She couldn't even find any valuable leads regarding Mr. Chilton’s name. It was as if someone had deliberately wiped everything clean.
Leilani stared at the screen, frowning slightly.
To leave no trace on the dark web, one had to be either a top-tier financial magnate or... part of some unspeakable power.
She had originally just wanted to do Marlon a favor, but now it seemed this water ran deeper than she imagined.
Leilani closed her laptop and leaned back in her chair, lost in thought. She decided she would mention this to Floyd the next time she visited the Chilton villa.
Why not tell him now? Because the people following her clearly didn't intend to harm her yet. If she told Floyd now that she was being tracked, given his overly cautious nature regarding Mr. Chilton, he would probably move their base of operations overnight and pack Leilani up along with them.
The problem was, she couldn't leave yet. She had driven back from the outskirts overnight without rest specifically because she had promised Callahan she would treat Arnold. She couldn't go back on her word.
