The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 178

After all, they were just employees, but he was the manager. Without his tacit approval, they wouldn't have dared to be so arrogant in front of a customer. Now that the sale was lost, he was shifting the blame.

...

On the drive back, Beatty stole a glance at Brenda's ashen face and hesitated. "Brenda, don't be too angry. Maybe Leilani was just trying to maintain her dignity in front of you—faking it until she makes it. For all we know, she'll be eating canned beans for months after buying that car. Don't let it get to you."

Brenda let out a cold snort. "Ha. I'm not angry."

She was simply contemplating how to destroy that woman.

It was obvious Brenda was lying. Beatty thought about how much her cousin seemed to care about Leilani the other day and felt a twinge of guilt. After all, Brenda had started the trouble today. If Leilani complained to Callahan and Dante, her allowance would be cut again.

"Brenda, maybe... we should just let it go?" Beatty suggested. "My cousin seems to really like her... Maybe you should find someone else."

Beatty had intended to persuade Brenda to move on. There are plenty of fish in the sea; why obsess over this one guy? However, her attempt at persuasion struck Brenda's pride with surgical precision.

As soon as Beatty finished speaking, Brenda whipped her head around, her eyes red with rage, staring Beatty down. It made Beatty panic. She had never seen Brenda look this unhinged before.

"Like her? Why would he like a generic ex-con like her?"

Brenda grabbed Beatty's hand, her nails digging into the skin. "Beatty, you have to help me... As long as your cousin marries me, the cooperation between our families will be tighter. I'll give you whatever resources you want!"
