Mr. Dillon looked at her seriously. "Dr. Cheney, I have a thought."
Leilani looked up.
"I don't know who you studied under, but if you don't currently have a mentor... would you consider me?" Mr. Dillon's gaze was burning, though he expressed his idea in a tactful, joking manner. "I may not be the absolute top doctor, but I promise, if you follow me, I'll make sure you're set for life!"
Leilani was stunned for a moment, then shook her head. She hadn't expected Mr. Dillon to bring this up. "I'm sorry, Mr. Dillon. I already have a mentor."
"Oh?" Mr. Dillon was surprised, but not overly so. Given that Leilani had such brilliant medical skills at such a young age, he wouldn't have believed she didn't have guidance. He had just held onto a sliver of hope. "Who is your mentor?"
Mr. Dillon wasn't ready to give up yet. Who was lucky enough to have such a talented student? If it was someone lesser than him, he wouldn't accept it.
Leilani's fingers tightened slightly. Paulina was the "Phantom Doctor" who dominated the dark web. Although she had saved countless desperate outlaws, she had also made countless enemies. Mr. Dillon and Mr. Chilton were clearly from legitimate, upstanding backgrounds, likely connected to the central government. If they knew her lineage, it might expose Paulina... and bring trouble to herself.
"My mentor was just a nameless doctor. She has already passed away." Leilani lowered her eyes, her tone calm. "And I won't take anyone else as a mentor."
