The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 348

Clara took the phone and typed in her number. Mia saved it carefully, then called it. She didn't hang up until Clara's phone rang, a look of relief on her face.

"Where are you staying now?"

"I don't live in Brighton City anymore. I'm just passing through. I'll be leaving soon."

Perhaps sensing the tension in the air, Nellie suddenly scrunched up her face and let out a wail from her car seat.

Wendy quickly rummaged for a teething cracker to soothe her.

Mia ignored the child, her eyes fixed on Clara for a long moment.

"Well... you take care of yourself, then," Mia said finally.

Clara smiled. "You too. And please give my regards to Old Mr. Huntington."

Mia got back in the car, glancing back every few steps. Wendy looked over several times through the window, as if wanting to say something but holding back. Finally, the car turned a corner and drove into the hospital grounds.

Clara stood there, looking down at her palm, remembering how Mia used to hold her hand while they chatted about everyday things.

Did Mia know about Rhys and Margot?

If she did, did that mean Clara was the only one in the family who had been kept in the dark, like a fool, from beginning to end?

She clenched her fist, walked to the sink in a nearby public restroom, and washed her hands over and over until her skin turned red.

The screen lit up with a text from Mia.

[Clara, this is my number. Please save it. If you ever have time, or... if there's anything you want to talk about, you can always text me. No matter what, I truly hope you're doing well.]

Clara stared at the screen for a few seconds before replying with a simple "Okay."

...

Heron Bay.

Simon, tired of Rhys moping around the house, had taken Felix to the aquarium with Alex Thorne.

Rhys had parked his car right at the gate of Clara's yard.

Before they left, Felix had leaned against the car window and whispered to him, "I want to go find Mommy."
