The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1279

“Congratulations.”

Mr. Churchill smiled, his voice soft and warm. “The antidote for the gene mutation is finished. We did it.”

“Thanks.”

Charlotte barely nodded. She didn’t say anything else, just headed straight for the computer.

“Pull up the data.”

“On it,” Dr. David replied, but his heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was about to jump out of his chest. He wished he could just disappear.

The lab was almost completely silent except for the faint noises of the machines. Charlotte’s lips were pressed together, her face pale, and the air around her felt cold and heavy.

Mr. Churchill had never seen her look like this before. Was it because she was worried about Anthony?

“Charlotte, I’ve already checked the data,” Dr. David said carefully. “There shouldn’t be any issues.”

When the analysis was finished, Charlotte powered down the equipment and pulled off her gloves. She looked at Dr. David and said, “No problems.”

“That’s great news,” Dr. David let out a long breath, his excitement barely contained. “Let’s get started on the clinical trial as soon as possible.”

Once they began, the results would come out in a week if they were lucky, maybe two if things were slow.

“What are the odds the trial will work?” Charlotte stared at Dr. David, her eyes serious.

“Eighty percent,” Dr. David answered honestly. He tried to sound confident, hoping luck was on their side.

Charlotte was quiet for a moment. Then she looked over at Mr. Churchill. Her voice was low. “Can you wait outside for a couple of minutes?”

“Of course.” Mr. Churchill nodded, giving her a gentle smile. Before leaving, he looked at her for a long moment. “Eighty percent is already a great chance. Trust me, the antidote is going to work.”

His words made Charlotte’s heart flutter, but by the time she realized it, he had already left.
