The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1273

“Aren’t you worried that once Charlotte finds out who I really am, she’ll refuse to let me do the clinical trial?”

Newell rose from his seat, and now the two men stood eye to eye. They were both tall, but that was where the similarities ended. One radiated confidence and authority, the other carried himself with a quiet, refined grace.

As their conversation went on, the tension in the room kept building. The air felt heavy, almost suffocating.

Just outside the door, Dr. David listened in, completely stunned. He’d known Newell for years. Back when he first noticed how much Mr. Churchill and Newell looked alike, he’d come up with all kinds of theories, but he never imagined they could actually be the same person.

All this time, Newell had kept up the act without a single slip.

What shocked him even more was finding out that Charlotte’s rapid genetic mutation was caused by a catalyst, and the person behind it was the mentor she respected most.

“If the truth comes out, I don’t know if Charlotte can take it,” Dr. David murmured, rubbing his temples. “Poor Charlotte.”

“If I were Anthony, I’d just go with Newell’s plan,” the assistant said, pursing his lips. “Newell’s doing this of his own free will. If something goes wrong, at least Charlotte’s kept in the dark. It’d all stay a secret.”

But for some reason, Anthony was hesitating, even though the plan sounded flawless. Did he not want to cure Charlotte anymore?

“You don’t know anything,” Dr. David snapped, smacking the assistant lightly on the head. “If Anthony really tried to hide this from Charlotte and agreed to Newell’s plan, Charlotte never would have fallen for him in the first place.”

“Why not?” the assistant asked, still confused.

Dr. David let out an exasperated sigh, shoved a stack of files into the assistant’s hands, and said, “Go do more experiments. Maybe it’ll help you think.”

Charlotte couldn’t stand lies or secrets. The man she loved had to be honest with her, no matter what.

Anthony had already pushed the limit by keeping quiet about taking the gene-altering drug himself. When it came to Newell’s secret, he wouldn’t dare hide it from Charlotte, even if he had all the courage in the world.

Plus, once the truth came out, it was Newell who would have to face the consequences. Winning Charlotte’s forgiveness this time would be nearly impossible.
