The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1268

He showed up on his own, and it was obvious why. He wanted the cure. He wanted to live.

It just so happened that Anthony was missing a certain gene, and if Mr. Churchill had it, the cure could finally be tested without a hitch.

“Should we tell Charlotte and Anthony about this?” the assistant asked again, glancing over.

He guessed Dr. David wouldn’t have the guts to keep something like this from Charlotte.

Dr. David was quiet for a few seconds, thinking it over. “Let’s wait for the results,” he finally said. “If Mr. Churchill’s genes aren’t a match, there’s no reason to bring it up.”

That afternoon, Mr. Churchill arrived at the lab right on time. Dr. David was pretty sure Mr. Churchill wouldn’t try anything reckless, but he wasn’t about to take chances. Every security camera was on, and there were bodyguards everywhere.

Mr. Churchill strolled in, car keys twirling in his hand, looking like he didn’t have a care in the world.

“Are we starting now?” he asked, glancing around at all the equipment. He had a little smile on his face, like he was actually interested in what was going on.

Dr. David couldn’t help but scratch his head. Did this guy really not care? Wasn’t he worried he might not walk out of here?

“This way,” Dr. David said, leading the way and sneaking glances at Mr. Churchill as they went.

The Hawk and Churchill families were basically obsessed with gene mutation. Damaris especially—rumor had it she’d even used her own son in experiments to fulfill her late husband’s wishes.

But looking at Mr. Churchill, Dr. David didn’t really get a bad vibe from him.

He brought Mr. Churchill into the lab, did a quick check, and drew his blood himself.

Their lab was one of a kind, stacked with the most advanced tech in the world. There were tests they could run here that no one else could.

“This’ll be a lot—about seven vials,” Dr. David said as he slid the needle in, watching Newell’s face. For a second, he felt like he’d seen him somewhere before. “Mr. Churchill, you look a lot like someone I used to know.”

Charlotte was the only thing tethering him to this world. As long as she lived, he’d do anything.

Dr. David studied him, trying to figure out what was going on. Wasn’t Mr. Churchill supposed to be fighting to stay alive? Why did he suddenly seem so willing to risk everything?

If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was ready to lay down his life for Charlotte.

Dr. David was at a loss. He’d heard rumors that Charlotte’s so-called fiancé was Mr. Churchill. Was it possible Mr. Churchill had fallen for her?

But as far as he knew, Charlotte always made things difficult for Mr. Churchill whenever they met.

“I can’t make this decision,” Dr. David said finally, turning to his assistant. “Tell Anthony to come over.”

He paused, lowering his voice. “And don’t let Charlotte find out about this. Not yet.”
