The doctor carried on, "Sure, the pomegranate juice was pure alright, but it was laced with a ton of saffron syrup. That’s what caused the bleeding in the stomach. It's all due to an overdose of saffron."
"Saffron is a top-shelf and very expensive spice. It’s good for the body in the right amounts. But if you OD on it, you're looking at vomiting, bloody urine, heavy periods, acute poisoning, internal bleeding, and the like. Especially for pregnant women, it can cause miscarriages and infertility.”
The room went silent after the doctor finished. Was there really something fishy about the pomegranate juice?
Upon hearing the last bit, Theo's face darkened, and his hand tightened into a fist. He had a gut feeling someone was gunning for his wife and kid.
Patricia was dumbfounded. What was the doctor playing at? Was he just in it for the dough and not doing his job?
"Doc, what the hell are you talking about? Saffron? In pomegranate juice? You must've gotten it all mixed up. Have another gander at the test results."
Patricia was hinting at the doctor as she spoke, but the doctor wasn't having it. "Ms. Howard, I haven't gotten anything mixed up. If you don't believe me, take a look at the report yourself. It’s all there in black and white.”
With that, the doctor handed the report to Patricia.
Patricia was left speechless and staring at the doctor. How could he...?
Before she could reach for the report, Balfour snatched it, his expression stern as he read it.
Xenia, who was waiting for Ellinor to eat humble pie, now looked rather unsettled.
How was I to know that too much saffron would have such severe side effects? If I knew, I would never let my son Byran drink so much!”
In fact, Xenia definitely knew about the side effects of saffron, but she didn't fully understand them and didn't expect it would have such a serious impact on men.
Balfour was no fool; he raised an eyebrow sharply, "Oh? You found this recipe online? Where exactly? Show me!"
Xenia looked a bit uncomfortable. "Uh... I deleted the tutorial after making the juice; I didn't save it."
Balfour narrowed his eyes, his tone ominous, "Then I guess you'll have to search for it again. I want to see which tutorial teaches people to add poisonous saffron syrup to juice!"
