"Seeing how fiercely Joseph protects and loves you brings me so much joy. But with his status, wealth, and looks, there will undoubtedly be a lot of temptations out there. You still need to keep a close eye on things."
No matter how happy her daughter's marriage seemed, a mother couldn't help but prepare for the worst.
Hillary didn't doubt Joseph's character; she just knew how ruthless and scheming people in society could be.
Vivica hadn't expected her biological mother to bring this up. She paused, then softly replied, "He... he isn't like that. Even if someone threw themselves at him, he wouldn't give them the time of day."
"That's wonderful, then." Hillary nodded, feeling somewhat relieved. After a brief pause, she added, "Still, a marriage is always more secure once you have children of your own. You've been trying for a while now, haven't you? Any news?"
The topic made Vivica feel deflated.
She was more anxious than anyone.
Chaim was about to start another grueling round of chemotherapy and radiation.
Just the thought of her little boy suffering again felt like a knife twisting in her heart.
"Not yet..."
Hillary leaned in closer, dropping her voice. "There's a very famous holistic healer from Bayville City currently in Sydville. He's renowned for his success with fertility issues. Since you're already here, why don't you go see him tomorrow?"
Vivica stared at her, not saying a word, but she was visibly wavering.
Seeing her hesitation, Hillary made the executive decision. "I'll call your aunt right now and have her pull some strings to get you an appointment for tomorrow. You and Joseph must go together."
Vivica wanted to politely decline, but Hillary was already dialing the phone.
The next day, Vivica dragged Joseph to see the renowned healer.
Joseph was clearly resistant. Even as he got into the car, he complained, "Harvey Murphy is basically a miracle worker when it comes to fertility. Why are we driving out of our way to see some old doctor?"
If Harvey ever found out they had sought alternative medicine behind his back, he'd probably flip a desk.
