Vivica lowered her hands, her fingers still clutching the phone as she read the message over and over. She couldn't quite put a name to the feeling in her heart.
Just that morning, she had been talking to Joseph about finding a time to go see them, perhaps that very evening. She knew she couldn't avoid them forever; she would have to face them sooner or later.
She never expected that before she could summon the courage to make a decision, they would leave first. They had come unannounced and left just as quietly.
After staring blankly for a moment, Vivica took a screenshot and sent it to Joseph.
Once that was done, she returned to her chat with Raymond. After some thought, she decided she should be graceful and magnanimous. She typed a single word in reply.
[Okay.]
Given their means, flying would have been faster. She figured they must have chosen the smoother, more stable train ride out of consideration for Raymond’s aunt’s health.
Joseph was busy with work and didn't see Vivica’s message until just before the end of the day. Reading it, he was also a bit surprised, but upon reflection, it made sense.
His visit with Hillary that morning had likely eased some of their fixation. Plus, with Hillary's husband paralyzed and bedridden, they probably didn't feel comfortable staying away from home for too long. So, they left.
[That works out perfectly. Now you don’t have to struggle with the decision.]
