After a few more pleasantries, Vivica took Evelyn’s arm and they turned to leave.

Once they were on the road, she didn’t drive Evelyn all the way home. Instead, she pulled over at a bus stop two intersections away.

“I keep my promises. I’ll wire you the three thousand dollars now,” Vivica said, pulling out her phone. “But you remember this: stay out of my business and don’t come looking for me. Otherwise, I’ll report you to the police for human trafficking.”
