[The high-speed train is fine. Safety first.]
That was Joseph’s reply. He was in a rush to get to his branch office’s annual dinner and didn’t have time to chat.
Seeing his formal response, Vivica lost any desire to continue the conversation.
The farewell dinner, arranged by Raymond, was a grand affair to thank them for their hard work over the past few days. As usual, Vivica and Holly stuck to non-alcoholic drinks.
By the time they finished, it was already nine-thirty. Vivica was anxious to get back to the hotel and video call her son, practically wishing she could teleport into the car.
But just as they were leaving, Raymond specifically called out to her.
“Mr. Smith,” Vivica said, nodding politely.
“Ms. Lynn, do you remember what I said about you looking like a friend of mine?” Raymond hesitated, but knowing she was leaving the next day, he felt compelled to bring it up again.
Vivica frowned, her eyes filled with curiosity. Could it be that his words weren't just a pickup line after all?
Raymond took out his phone, opened his photo gallery, and found the picture. “Look, this is the lady I was talking about. Don’t you think you two look alike?”
Skeptical but intrigued, Vivica leaned in for a closer look.
Suddenly, a group of drunk guests stumbled past, and one of them bumped into her.
“Watch out!”
Vivica lost her balance and pitched forward, right into Raymond’s arms. He caught her just in time.
Unfortunately, Zavier witnessed the scene and immediately drew the wrong conclusion. He rushed over, pulling Vivica away from Raymond. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.
