“Why is it so loud over there? Are they yelling at you again?” Joseph’s concerned voice came through the phone, the commotion clearly audible even from his end.

Vivica instinctively shifted her chair away from the chaos, pulling her son closer. “No, it’s Loretta and Riley. They’re fighting.”

“It’s not my fault your brother is incompetent and couldn’t win his case! Besides, it takes two to tango. What do you mean I was chasing him? He was obsessed the moment he saw me. How is that my problem? If I’d known he was impotent, I wouldn’t have taken him even if he paid me!”

In her rage, Riley’s words tumbled out without a filter, her loud proclamation echoing through the room. It was a vicious slap in the face to Fletcher.

“That’s enough!” As expected, Fletcher exploded. He shot to his feet and, before Riley could react, swung his hand across her face.

The sharp crack of the slap sent Riley stumbling backward, nearly knocking over her chair.

Vivica reacted instantly. The moment she saw Fletcher raise his hand, she covered Chaim’s eyes with her free one. She refused to let her young son witness such a scene.
