At the thought, Vivica’s heart began to race again.
“Ms. Lynn, why aren’t you eating?” Harvey asked gently, noticing her dazed expression.
Joseph looked at her too. He could tell she was overwhelmed, her mind probably spinning with a dozen different theories, and he wouldn’t have been surprised if she bolted from the room. He shot his uninvited friend a dark look.
“Oh, I am. Your uncle is an amazing chef,” Vivica said, snapping back to the present and offering a polite compliment. It was true, though. She didn’t even know what she was eating, but the flavors were exquisite and melted in her mouth. Being with Joseph was certainly an eye-opening experience in every way.
Harvey glanced at his friend, giving him a look that only another man would understand. *This one’s a keeper.*
Joseph glared back at him.
Harvey just chuckled, unfazed, and continued chatting with Vivica. “I only found out yesterday that Joseph was injured. I was going to visit him at the hospital, but he said he was busy. I didn’t expect to run into him here today.”
Vivica suddenly remembered the phone call Joseph had taken in the car yesterday and chimed in, “Yes, he was with me yesterday helping me take care of a few things.”
“Oh, so he was running all over town with you even though he was hurt?” Harvey asked with a knowing smile.
Vivica froze. The words hit her with unexpected force, and her already racing heart skipped a beat. What did he mean by that? Was it really as she suspected—that Joseph had told him something?
The table fell silent. Seeing Vivica’s reaction, Joseph’s face darkened. Harvey had clearly come today just to cause trouble. He gave his friend a sharp kick under the table and urged Vivica, “Hurry up and eat. Don’t you have to get to work?”
After the second kick, Harvey decided he’d had enough. “Why do you keep kicking me? What did I say that was so wrong?”
“Harvey!” Joseph’s voice was a clear warning.
But his friend wasn’t intimidated. He turned to Vivica with a smile. “Ms. Lynn, don’t rush. Take your time. We can eat and chat.”
