Vivica looked into her son’s eyes and knew the little boy missed his father. After all, Fletcher had been a constant presence in his life since birth.
“Yes,” Vivica nodded. She decided it was time to be honest with him. “Daddy and I are separated now. We won’t be living together anymore, and we won’t see him as often.”
Chaim looked down, stirring the soup in his bowl. “I know… Daddy doesn’t want us anymore.”
Seeing the heartbreakingly sad look on his face, Vivica gently stroked his little head. “Do you miss him?”
Chaim shook his head. “No. He doesn’t even come to see me. I don’t miss him.”
His words were defiant, but the slight redness in his eyes betrayed his true feelings. This was a reality he had to face, and there was nothing Vivica could do to change it.
Sensing the heavy mood, Melanie came over and gently coaxed Chaim away. “Vivica, you go take care of your business. Don’t worry about him; we’ve got him,” she said with a kind smile.
“Thank you. I appreciate it.”
As Vivica stepped out of the hospital room, she found two bodyguards waiting for her.
“Ms. Lynn, Mr. Baird instructed us to escort you to the property records office,” one of them said.
Vivica didn’t know what to make of Joseph. He was so cold and distant with her, yet he still arranged for people to look after her every need.
“Alright, thank you,” she said, deciding not to argue. With the Sanford family’s numbers and influence, she knew it was wise to have some backup.
Unsurprisingly, when she arrived at the office, Fletcher was late. They had agreed to meet at eight-thirty, but despite three calls from Vivica, he didn’t show up until ten-thirty.
By then, Vivica’s patience had worn thin. She saw him get out of his car with Riley clinging to his arm and couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes.
