After washing up, she came out of the bathroom, half-expecting him to be gone. But he was still there, waiting for her. Their eyes met, and he turned to walk out of the room.

Vivica followed silently behind him. Watching his tall, powerful back, which still seemed a little stiff, her thoughts drifted back to the night before. She had only been trying to help him, but her own injury had caused her to fall and knock him back down. She hoped she hadn't made his injuries worse.

"It has nothing to do with Mr. Baird," Vivica quickly interjected. "It's a family matter."

"Your family?" Melanie's concern deepened. "Are your parents asking for money again?"

"No," Vivica said, shaking her head. Sheridan and Melanie had shown her nothing but genuine kindness, so she didn't hide the truth. "I just found out… that my mother isn't my biological mother. It's been a bit of a shock."

"What?" Melanie exclaimed, stunned.

From the sofa where he was playing with Chaim, Sheridan turned to look at them, his expression mirroring his wife's shock.
