The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 130

A normal mother would have immediately expressed concern, asking if her daughter was hurt.

But Evelyn was not a normal mother. Without a moment’s hesitation or a single word of sympathy, she launched her second attack. “So why didn’t you answer when I called back? I see what’s happening. You think you’re independent now, ready to fly away and cut us off completely.”

Vivica felt a wave of exhaustion. “Mom…”

“You have such a cruel heart. Your father and I must have done something terrible in a past life to have two children like you—one ungrateful, the other useless…”

Vivica had intended to just let her rant, to treat it like a meaningless chant that would eventually end. But her mother’s words grew harsher, and something inside her finally snapped.

“First of all,” she shot back, “you chose to have me and raise me. I didn’t force you. If I had a choice, I would have preferred not to be born into this family at all.”

Evelyn was stunned silent for a second, then sputtered in disbelief, “What did you just say? You’re absolutely—”

“Second, even if you did raise me, I’ve given you more than enough in return over the years! I barely asked you for any money for college or grad school. If you really want to tally it all up, the financial support I’ve provided far exceeds any debt I might have owed you.”

“Vivica!” Evelyn shrieked. “Is that any way to talk? In a family, you don’t—”

“And finally, I am not ungrateful. Whenever this family has had a problem, I was the one who solved it. Meanwhile, you two have never shown me an ounce of genuine love or care; you only ever think about what you can take from me. And as for your precious, useless son? He’s that way because you spoiled him rotten. You brought that on yourselves!”

“Vivica! Are you trying to kill me? What kind of child speaks to their—”

Vivica hung up on her mother’s hysterical screaming. The joy of her victory over Fletcher was completely drowned out by the phone calls. As she drove, tears streamed down her face, blurring her vision. A suffocating tightness gripped her chest, and a buzzing sound filled her ears from lack of oxygen. Fearing she might pass out and cause an accident, she quickly pulled over to the side of the road.
