Gavin took the document, glanced at it, and clicked his tongue in admiration. “A textbook example.” He then handed it to Fletcher. “Mr. Sanford, your signature.”
Fletcher took the papers and began to read.
Gavin turned back to Joseph. “Since they’ve reached an agreement, do we still need to go to court? They could just file for an uncontested divorce.”
“No, we’ll proceed with the court date,” Joseph stated without hesitation.
If they went the uncontested route, their previous filing would be voided because the terms of the divorce had changed. They would have to submit a new application, which meant another thirty-day cooling-off period. A lot could change in a day, let alone thirty.
“The hearing is this Friday. With the agreement in place, it’ll be a mere formality. The judge will issue a ruling quickly.”
This meant that by Friday, Vivica would be free, single, and a very wealthy young woman.
Gavin nodded. “Right, I understand your reasoning. We’ll wait for the court’s judgment then. But Joseph, my client is in a tough spot. Can you be lenient on the timeline for the asset buyout?”
Joseph didn't answer directly. He turned to Vivica and asked in a low voice, “The fifty million for the company assets, how many years are you willing to give him to pay it back?”
Vivica considered the company’s current financial state. Fletcher probably couldn’t produce that much cash at once, and pushing him into a corner could lead to desperate measures. After a moment of thought, she said, “Five years. Ten million a year. He should be able to manage that.”
“Five years? Ten million a year?” Loretta exclaimed. “Do you think my brother’s company is a money printer?”
