The Husband Hidden Behind Her novel Chapter 5

Yvonne lowered her gaze to hide the sadness in her eyes when she saw the apathetic look on his face and heard the harsh words from him.

What was Jackson Miller's heart made of? They had dated for five years and then married for another three years. She had done nothing to wrong him, and yet he treated her so cruelly.

Three years ago, he did not leave a single cent for her when he threw her out of the house. Now meeting him for the first time after three years, he was planning to send her to jail without hearing her side of the story.

Men were the crudest creatures in the world, and Jackson was the cream of the crop. She must have been blind to fall in love with such a cruel, coldblooded man as him!

Since Yvonne refused to apologize, she was brought to the police station for investigation. The police followed protocol and interrogated her. In the middle o f her interrogation, her phone rang. It was from Zachary. When Yvonne answered, she heard Zachary asked in frustration, "Yvonne Yates, where the hell did you go? Did I not tell you to wait for me in the lounge?"

"I'm sorry, President Quimby!" Yvonne apologized profusely, "Something happened. I'm at the police

station now." "What? Police station? What are you doing at the police station?"

"I... I..." Yvonne did not know what to say. She could not tell Zachary that she was sent to the police station by her ex-husband for fighting with his mistress who had ruined her marriage. Zachary grew impatient, listening to her stutter. "You can stay in the police station if you like it there so much. I don't want you as my assistant anymore. I'll tell Yosef right now!”

Zachary had hung up the phone, leaving a dial tone at the end of the line. Yvonne's heart sank. Did she just get herself fired and put in jail at the same time?

The police officers took pity on her when they noticed how pale her face was. "Girl, why did you offend these people? One is Secretary Summers' precious daughter whereas the other is the business tycoon Jackson Miller. Why did you have to provoke them? You should learn to read the room a little next time. An apology goes a long way. By the way, I have President Miller's phone number with me. Why don't you call and apologize to him?" 1

Yvonne twitched her lips and replied, "Thank you, sir.

I don't have a job or any place to go to anymore. I would be better off being locked up here, lest I get food and shelter for the time being. I'm not apologizing!"

"It was a nobody"

"Are you trying to make me look bad by getting yourself to be bullied like that?" Zachary grabbed his phone and dialed a number. "Send two men over. My assistant was bullied. Take care of the people who bullied her!"

"President Quimby! That person is in the hospital now. So, there is no need to send someone to take care of her! She's the one who wants me taken care of!" "You did good!" The serious expression on Zachary's face was replaced by a pleased one. "Never mind, no one will dare to do anything to you when you're with m e. Get up and let’s go"

"Go?"

"Do you want to stay here?" Zachary said as he turned and walked out. Yvonne hesitated for a moment before she got up and followed him.

No one stopped her, and she managed to leave the police station with Zachary without getting into any more trouble. When they arrived at the parking lot, Zachary suddenly turned and laughed at her.
