In the dining hall, Gu Jian, the Emperor, and the Crown Prince had already taken their seats, and the Emperor was talking to Gu Jian when Gu Moyan brought Tang Zijin in.
"Please, have a seat!"
Gu Jian said to the two with a smile.
Tang Zijin looked at Gu Moyan, and seeing that he had sat down, she sat down below him, appearing very much like an obedient wife.
The three of them—Gu Jian, the Emperor, and the Crown Prince—saw this and all smiled slightly.
Gu Moyan noticed the unusual expressions on the faces of the three elders, glanced at Tang Zijin, and seeing the reliance in her eyes, he knew she was nervous and anxious in front of the Emperor and the Crown Prince. He sighed internally and refrained from saying anything to her.
Seeing everyone had arrived, the Emperor picked up his chopsticks first, "Alright, let’s start," he said, and then placed some of a dish that Gu Jian liked onto his plate.
The Crown Prince followed suit, also giving some food to Gu Jian before he began to eat himself.
Gu Moyan, seated farther away, didn’t have to serve Gu Jian food and instead signaled with his eyes for Tang Zijin to start eating.
This time, unlike the previous two times, Tang Zijin could not eat at ease. Meeting the Emperor and the Crown Prince for the first time, even though both of them had friendly smiles on their faces, she couldn’t help feeling nervous. She picked up her chopsticks and dared only to eat from the plate of green vegetables in front of her.
Gu Jian, seated at the head, noticed this and couldn’t help but say, "Zijin girl, don’t just eat the greens, try some of the others too; today’s meal comprises all the dishes you like."
Saying this, he glanced at Gu Moyan, "It was Moyan who specifically tasked the chef to make these to apologize to you."
Gu Moyan: "..."
Once again, as in his childhood when he made the little chubby face cry, the great ancestor liked to use food in his name to ’appease’ the little chubby face.
Tang Zijin hurriedly stood up to explain, "Great Ancestor, actually, yesterday the young lord didn’t bully me; my fall was accidental, and he already apologized, so there’s no need for an apology."
Gu Jian laughed, "An apology is an apology, and eating is eating, they are unrelated."
The Emperor and the Crown Prince were unaware of what happened yesterday, so the Crown Prince immediately laughed, "So, it turns out that today’s meal is thanks to Tang’s Second Young Lady."
With that, Tang Zijin didn’t know how to respond and could only smile awkwardly.
Seeing her silly smile, Gu Moyan couldn’t bear to look, tugging at her sleeve to have her sit back down.
Tang Zijin then sat back down, but she still didn’t dare to extend her chopsticks to pick up food.
Gu Moyan sighed, knowing that the little chubby face was only bold at home, daring to yell only at him and acting all timid before others. Seeing her only eating the greens, he couldn’t help but serve her some dishes.
Tang Zijin was quite willing to eat the dishes that Gu Moyan picked for her; she consumed as much as he served. Eating made her feel a bit more at ease.
"I want to eat lion’s head,"
Tang Zijin said softly, looking at Gu Moyan with an expectant gaze.
Gu Moyan glared at her, but still served it to her, then grunted, "What else you want to eat?"
Tang Zijin’s cheeks dimpled into a pair of smiles, "I also want to eat squirrel fish."
Seeing that Tang Zijin quickly ate the dishes he picked, Gu Moyan’s eyes glinted with amusement. As he continued to serve her food, he also ate himself, making him the busiest at the dining table.
The three seated above—Gu Jian, the Emperor, and the Crown Prince—looked at the two, one serving and one eating, feeling an affectionate warmth and exchanged smiles.
All three were very concerned about Gu Moyan’s marriage.
