"Sigh~"
In the dining hall of Pingxi Hall, Daohua and Xiao Yeyang were accompanying Prince Ping for dinner.
Seeing Prince Ping sighing for what seemed like the umpteenth time, the couple exchanged uncertain glances.
"Sigh, I wonder if Daozi and the twins are adapting well to staying in the palace?"
Prince Ping listlessly poked at the food in his bowl, his face filled with longing and worry for his grandchildren.
Daohua smiled and comforted him, "Father, don’t worry. Daozi and the twins are very adaptable. Look, when they came back to the Prince Residence, didn’t they quickly adjust?"
Prince Ping showed disapproval, "How can that be the same? The Prince Residence is their home, but the Imperial Palace is not." Saying this, he sighed again. "I wonder if the palace food suits their tastes?"
Bringing this up caused his worry to deepen further.
"What if they end up going hungry there? Ah, if I had known earlier, I should have summoned the butler from the Imperial Kitchen today before leaving the palace to give proper instructions."
Seeing Prince Ping looking so anxious, as if he was certain the three children were already starving, Daohua’s lips twitched slightly. Awkwardly, she explained, "Father, that shouldn’t happen."
"You forget, if something doesn’t meet their expectations, those three would speak up directly. They definitely wouldn’t starve themselves."
Hearing this, Prince Ping’s expression improved slightly, and he smiled, "Indeed, my three precious grandchildren are quite outspoken." He gave Daohua a satisfied look and added, "That part is like you."
Daohua’s face froze in response; being outspoken like her—was he praising her?
Xiao Yeyang spoke up, "Daozi will take good care of his younger siblings. No need to worry here; the food is getting cold."
Detecting the subtle concern and reassurance in Xiao Yeyang’s tone, Prince Ping’s lips curved upward, and he began eating earnestly again. But after just two bites, he thought of the lively atmosphere at the dinner table when his grandchildren were present and couldn’t help but start complaining once more.
"My elder brother is really something. He has plenty of his own grandchildren, but he insists on stealing my three precious grandchildren. He always bullies me."
Seeing Prince Ping’s aggrieved expression, like a victim, Daohua couldn’t hold back her laughter. She quickly buried her face in her food to suppress it.
Xiao Yeyang also kept his head down, focused on eating, saying nothing.
Seeing both his son and daughter-in-law unaffected as they ate, Prince Ping grew dissatisfied, "You two, aren’t you worried at all? How can you still have the appetite to eat calmly here?"
Daohua: "..."
Xiao Yeyang: "..."
Daohua quietly set down her bowl and chopsticks, smiling as she asked, "Father, what would you like us to worry about?"
Prince Ping replied, "Worry about my elder brother clinging to Daozi and the twins and not letting go! What if he decides to keep the three children in the palace permanently?"
Xiao Yeyang responded succinctly, "That won’t happen."
Daohua quickly nodded in agreement, "Exactly, Father. Uncle is swamped with handling state affairs every day; he doesn’t have the time to spend all day playing with the children."
She truly didn’t worry about that at all. Daozi might still be manageable, but the twins, left unrestrained, could stir up trouble far beyond control—she was well aware of that.
The Emperor was busy enough handling state matters every day. How could he have the energy to deal with the twins?
Prince Ping, however, remained unconvinced and insisted, "No, tomorrow I must go to the palace to remind my elder brother to bring the grandchildren back to the Prince Residence sooner."
Daohua and Xiao Yeyang exchanged a quick glance but chose to remain silent.
...
In the Imperial Palace.
