The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 409

Avery’s POV

I could only stand there and stare, stupidly, as Gideon sucked the poison from my thumb. His tongue lapped over my finger, arm tightened around my waist, every touch making the heat in my body turn up to such a degree that it felt like my blood was boiling.

His eyes never left mine. Or maybe mine never left his. I couldn’t tell. But I knew that I didn’t want to look away, even for a moment.

Finally, slowly, he withdrew my finger from his mouth, turned his head to the side, and spat onto the ground.

“You called my name,” he said.

Some of the fog began to ebb away from my mind. “How did you…”

“The mate bond. You seem to forget it’s there sometimes, but I never do.” His hand brushed over the mark on my neck, which was hardly even a scar now, although it still made me shiver. “I was getting ready to leave when I heard it. Your voice. So I came.”

I didn’t remember that. But it didn’t matter now. He’d come when I needed him to, again, and I appreciate that.

And I knew, as the aphrodisiac’s effects began to fade, leaving me regretful and tired, that I should step back and thank him for his help and send him away.

But I didn’t do any of that.
