The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 340

Chapter 340

So I ran after her.

Ignoring the guards who shouted and chased me, I flew down the stairs and out the side door and across the driveway. I could already see the tail lights of her car turning out of the gate onto the road. I mind inked Tegan and told him to meet me. He simply sent back a responding “Yes, Sir, before the connection cut off.

I’d just made it out onto the road when Tegan appeared, tires screeching on the asphalt. I pulled the door open before the car had fully stopped and got in.

“Which way?”

“I think she’s heading back toward the human lands.” I buckled my seatbelt. “She had a head start.”

Tegan floored the accelerator without hesitating and whipped toward the direction she’d disappeared. The road was narrow, out here and unlit, and windy in areas. We picked up her tail lights after about a minute, two red dots like eyes in the dark ahead of us.

“There!” I shouted. “Faster!”

Tegan pushed harder on the gas pedal. We were closing the gap slowly. I watched her lights and tried to think past the noise in my head long enough to figure out what I was going to say if we actually caught up to her, because the last attempt hadn’t gone particularly well.

Suddenly, a deer came out of nowhere.

It leapt into the middle of the road and froze the moment it saw the headlights. Cursing, Tegan hit the brakes hard and wrenched the wheel.

The car went sideways. For one long second I felt the rear end of the car slide out on the wet road, and then the front passenger side.dropped and we were in the ditch.

Neither of us spoke for a moment.

Only after several long seconds did I break the silence.

“Fuck!” I slammed my hands on the dashboard. “Fuck fuck FUCK!”

Once I’d calmed myself, “Tegan looked at me We were both out of breath, “You injured?” he asked.

“What does it fucking matter?” I dragged my hands through my hair so hard that a

few came loose. “She’s fucking gone!”

Tegan put the car in reverse and tried to get us out of the ditch. The wheels just spun, half in the air, half in the mud. The car didn’t budge.

Still cursing like a sailor, I got out of the car to assess the damage.

The ditch wasn’t deep but the angle was bad and the ground was soft and muddy from earlier rain. Most importantly, there was no way in hell we were going to get out in time to chase Avery down. We could shift and chase her car in wolf form, but we’d still never keep up. She had a nice sportscar that looked like it cost a fortune and it was fast as hell.

I stood on the road and looked in the direction Avery had gone, at the long empty stretch of nothing, and I put my hands on top of my head and exhaled.

She was gone. Again.

But she was alive. That meant that not all was lost.

“Why the fuck wouldn’t she talk to me?” I whispered.

Tegan climbed out of the car and came around to look at the wheels. He crouched down, pressed his lips together, and simply sighed.

We had been trying to get the car out of the ditch for about ten minutes to no avail when headlights appeared from further down the road. They were coming from the direction of Sebastian’s estate, which meant that it wasn’t Avery, but it was also a bad sign. Likely we were being followed now because I had snuck into the house.

Tegan and I both stood, preparing for a potential fight. The car pulled up slowly and stopped alongside us.

But when the window rolled down, I froze.

A woman looked out at me. Young, beautiful with sharp eyes and a smile that I recognized all too well.

“Gideon?” she said. “Is that you?”
