The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 310

Chapter 310

Before I could reach her, something slammed into my back.

I hit the ground hard. Pain exploded through my ribs. I tried to roll away, but a foot pressed on my back, pinning me down.

“Well, well, well.” Deirdre’s voice was almost giddy with glee. “Look who decided to come crawling back.”

I twisted beneath her foot, trying to break free, but she just pressed harder. My ribs screamed in protest.

“Let her go,” I gasped.

“Why would I do that?” Deirdre crouched down beside me, grabbing a fistful of my hair and yanking my head back. “You ruined everything. You took Gideon from me. You turned him against me.”

“My mother is innocent-

“She’s not innocent!” She slammed my face into the ground. My nose crunched, and fresh blood poured down my chin. “She raised you, didn’t she? She’s just as bad as you are.”

Deirdre hauled me up and threw me across the room. I hit a table and collapsed, gasping.

My vision blurred. Everything hurt. My body was already so weak from the days of captivity, from the torture, from the escape. I had nothing left. I tried to push myself up, but my arms gave out, I slumped back down.

“Gideon told me how he really feels about you, you know.” Deirdre knelt beside me. He said he didn’t want you. He only wanted an heir with you because you’re his mate. Even from the beginning, he just knew he needed to do what was necessary for the future of his pack. He couldn’t stand you,”

“Go to hell,” I whispered.

Deirdre laughed. “I think I’ll be doing him a favor by getting rid of you,” she whispered. “He always said he thought it would be easier if you were just dead.” Then, she grabbed me by the throat and slammed me against the wall. Her nails dug into my skin, right over the bruises Asher had left.

I clawed at her hands, trying to pry them loose, but I was too weak. My vision started to vignette around the edges.

Behind Deirdre, I saw my mother stirring. Her eyes opened, and she looked at me. Her face was pale. Deirdre released me, and collapsed onto the ground.

“You know what? I was going to kill you quickly,” Deirdre said. She walked over to a nearby table and picked up a knife. “But I think I’ll take my time instead.”

She crouched beside my mother and pressed the blade against her throat.

“No…” I tried to stand, but my legs wouldn’t cooperate. “Please…”

“Beg all you want,” Deirdre said. “It won’t change anything.”

She drew the knife across my mother’s throat. Not deep enough to kill, but enough to make her scream.

I forced myself to my feet. My body was screaming, but I didn’t care. I lunged at Deirdre and tackled her to the ground.

We struggled. I managed to get a couple of good hits in. I grabbed her face with my hand and shoved it aside, smearing my fingers across her mouth and teeth. She froze for a moment, disoriented and in pain from my nail scraping her gum. But she was stronger than me, better fed, better rested. She punched me, then flipped me onto my back and straddled me, raising the knife.

“Goodbye, Avery.”

I grabbed her wrist, but I couldn’t stop her. The blade came down, aiming for my chest.

At the last second, I managed to twist. The knife plunged into my shoulder instead. Pain exploded through me, white-hot and blinding.
