The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 308

Chapter 308

Gideon’s POV

My men moved forward, ready to attack Asher. He was weak. His camp was in chaos behind him. Half of the rogues had already died or fled during my rampage. Tegan reached for his weapon, preparing to kill the fucker.

But I held my arm out to stop my Beta.

“Stop,” I said.

Tegan froze mid-step. “Alpha?”

I stepped in front of them, blocking their path. “This man is mine to kill.”

Asher laughed. It was a wet, rasping sound. Still playing the hero, are we? Even after everything? Or are you just that much of a narcissist that you want all the glory for yourself?”

“This has nothing to do with being a hero.” walked toward him, fists clenched. ” You’ve fucked with my mate enough. This ends here. Now.”

Asher pushed himself off the tree and straightened as much as he could. Something was in his system. My nostrils flared, and I scented something chemical. I glanced at Avery, and she simply nodded.

“Morphine,” her voice whispered through our bond.

“A duel, then?” Asher spread his arms wide and grinned.

“If you want to call it that.” I stopped a few feet away from him. “Either going to beat you until there’s nothing left to beat.”

way, I’m

“Bold words for a man who was just in a cage until a girl had to come and save him.” Asher wiped a fleck of blood from his mouth “But fine. Let’s see what you’ve got, Alpha Gideon.”

He lunged at me before I could react, moving faster than I expected. His fist connected with my jaw, and I stumbled back Pain exploded through my skull, making my head spin. Maybe I wasn’t in the best condition to be fighting right now. But somehow, maybe out of pure spite, I managed to stay upright.

swung back, catching him in the ribs, He grunted and doubled over, but recovered quickly and drove his shoulder into my stomach. We both went down.

Asher grabbed my throat and squeezed. His fingers dug into my windpipe, cutting

off my air. I clawed at his hands, trying to pry them loose, but his grip was like a vise.

“You think you’re better than me?” he hissed. His face was inches from mine, his breath hot and rancid. “You think you deserve her?”

I drove my knee into his side. He gasped and his grip loosened just enough for me to break free. I shoved him off and rolled away gasping for air.

We both staggered to our feet. Asher was panting and swaying slightly. The drugs were taking their toll now, slowing his movements, making him sloppy.

“She’s special,” A

said. He wiped the sweat from his brow. “Avery.

She’s not just some pretty face. She’s a tool. A means to an end. The key to rebuilding the Lycan empire.”

“She’s not a tool,” I snarled.

“You’re using her too, Gideon,” Asher sneered. “For your heir. For your pack. Don’t pretend you’re any different than me.”

“I’m nothing like you.”

“You’re a lot more like me than you think, Gideon. We just want different things, that’s all. I want my people back. You want to protect yours. And the same woman just happens to be the key to both of us accomplishing our goals.”

“What a horrible outlook on life.” I circled him slowly. “I used to think like that. I used to see people the way you do. As stepping stones for the next big thing in life. I pity you, Asher. I feel sorry that, along with your eye, you lost your empathy.”

Asher snorted, “What, and you think you ever had a lick of empathy to begin with? Don’t try and tell me, Gideon, that the little hybrid bastard growing in Avery’s belly changed you into a better man, You’re still rotten at your core. People don’t change other people so easily,”

“Maybe not.” I raised my fists. “But Avery is different, like you said. She did change me. For the better. Perhaps I’ve still got a long way to go, but that’s the thing: I’ve got the time to do it. And you? You just ran out.”

I lunged at him again. This time, he was too slow to dodge. My fist connected with his face, and I heard the crack of bone. He staggered back, blood pouring from his nose. I didn’t stop. I hit him again. And again. Each blow drove him further back, closer to the edge of the camp where the ground dropped off into the steep ravine of Matthew’s Gulch.

Finally, Asher collapsed. He was on his knees now, swaying, barely conscious, teeth

coated in blood. I grabbed him by the collar and dragged him to the edge of the cliff.

Below, the ravine yawned open. Jagged rocks and broken trees jutted up from the darkness below.

“Any last words?” I asked.

گانه

Asher looked up at me. His good eye was swollen shut now, his face a mess of blood and bruises. But he still managed to smile.

“You’ll regret lowering yourself like this,” he wheezed. “She’ll never love you back. Not after what you said. Not after what you did.”

“You don’t know that. You don’t know anything.”

I released him and stepped back. Asher slumped forward, coughing.

But then I felt something prick my leg. And a moment later, warmth flooded my bloodstream.

I looked down to see that Asher had plunged a needle into my leg.

Morphine.

“Fuck…”

My legs gave out a moment later. My body was still weak from everything, starved and broken, and it made the morphine take its course quickly. I collapsed onto the ground. My vision was already starting to blur.

Asher slowly pushed himself to his feet and stood over me, swaying. “See you in hell, Gideon.”

My men were on him a second later. Tegan and the others surrounded him, snarling, pointing their weapons.

Asher looked at them, then at the ravine behind hitn.

He smiled and spread his arms wide, “This might be the end of the road for me, Gideon,” he said, “but I’ve done my part. The seeds have been planted. And, unfortunately for you, the woman who you claimed to be your guiding angel is already gone, because she only sees a devil in you.”
