Chapter 297

Asher.

“I have to go,” I whispered.

I didn’t wait for Gideon to respond before I turned and slipped between the cages, ducking behind a stack of crates just as Asher came into view. He was walking toward Gideon’s cage with two guards flanking him.

I drew in a steadying breath and slipped away, unseen and unheard.

Gideon’s POV

Asher stopped in front of my cage. His one good eye gleamed in the moonlight. I expected more torture, but surprisingly, I saw no weapons or tools this time. Just him and two guards. That could either be a good thing or a very, very bad thing. I was leaning toward the latter.

“Good evening, Alpha Gideon,” he said. His voice was smooth. “I trust you’ve had time to reconsider your position?”

I didn’t answer. I just glared at him.

“Still giving me the silent treatment?” Asher chuckled. “How mature.” He crouched down, bringing himself to eye level with me “Let me reiterate my offer. Leave peacefully. Go back to your pack. Forget about Avery. In exchange, I promise she won’t be harmed. In fact, she’ll live quite well by my side.”

“Go to hell,” I said.

Asher sighed. “Stubborn prick.” He stood and gestured to one of the guards.” Unfortunately, though, I can’t have you interfering with my plans. Avery is mine. She was promised to me long before you ever met her.”

My jaw tightened. Avery wasn’t his. She was pregnant. With my child.

Like hell I was gonna let this fucker have he

“You can make all the promises you want,” snarled, “but I’m not leaving her here. Not with you. Not ever.”

For a moment, Asher said nothing. Then, slowly, a smile spread across his face.

“Is that so?” He turned to one of the guards and held his hand out. “Bring me the

The guard stepped forward and placed a syringe in Asher’s palm. The liquid inside was a strange, milky color that seemed to glow faintly in the dark. Even from here, I could smell roses.

My stomach dropped. “What is that?”

“Plan B,” Asher said. He inspected the syringe. “You see, Gideon, I’ve been very patient with Avery. I’ve given her time to adjust. Time to see reason. But you keep getting in the way. I thought one of you might cave during your torture, but you’re both just as stubborn as the other.”

He unlocked the cage and stepped inside. I tried to scramble back, but the silver chains kept me pinned. One of the guards grabbed my arm and held it still.

“This,” Asher said, tapping the syringe, “is an aphrodisiac. A very potent one. Designed specifically for Alpha Werewolves. Once it’s in your system, you won’t be able to control yourself.”

My blood ran cold. “Don’t you dare.”

“I’m afraid I must. You’ve given me no choice.” Asher knelt beside me. “Don’t worry. The girl I’ve chosen for you is quite the looker. And she’s very eager, what with the same aphrodisiac already coursing through your veins.”
