Chapter 180
Dierdra’s POV

I stared at my reflection in the full length mirror and frowned. Was this too much bump? Not enough?
I pulled the soft, swishy fabric of my dress against my body and squinted at myself critically. The issue was, I had never been pregnant. I hadn’t spent much time around anyone who was.
Now I was trying to imitate the early stages of pregnancy, and I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing. This was all the Rogue King’s idea, of course, and so far it had been working. I had managed to get Avery out of the pack house, and thanks to her own stupid folly, she was performing back–breaking labor under my supervision every day.
I smirked at myself in the mirror’s silvered surface. Watching Avery covered in dirt and filth was the highlight of my day. The last time I saw her, she had looked exhausted, face screwed up in pain as she favored that arm she’d almost lost.
She was in way over her head, and I couldn’t wait for Gideon to pull the plug on their marriage and divorce her already.
However, in the meantime, I too felt out of my depth. The duties of Luna were so damn boring. Why couldn’t I spend my time just shopping instead?
I picked up a tight sheath dress from the bed and pulled it on, being careful to make sure the soft silicone bump I’d pasted against my skin didn’t shift as I changed. The material made me sweat.
Faking pregnancy had to be almost as hard as actually being pregnant.
Satisfied that I looked the part of the pregnant Luna, I pulled on my heels and marched down the stairs to the kitchen where I prepared a tray of tea to take up to Gideon’s office.
The man didn’t realize it yet, but he had started to crave tea at the same time each morning, because ! always brought it. My goal was to get him so accustomed to the small things I did, that he would find himself disgruntled when I wasn’t around, and wouldn’t even realize why.
I made a point of never entering his office without some gift or treat for him. Now I carefully balanced the tray on my hand and climbed the stairs to his office. As approached the door, I paused.
There were voices coming from inside, and they sounded unhappy. I stepped closer and shamelessly pressed my ear to the wood.
“Alpha, I must ask, when will the former Luna, Avery, be reinstated? The villagers have some concerns about recent bulletins we have received…”
I snarled at the voice. It must be one of those stupid villagers. I had sent them very clear instructions about my updates to pack policy, and yet they had endless questions and complaints. It wasn’t hard! Just do what I said!

“Luna Avery is still performing penance,” I heard Gideon rumble, “Is there a specific concern I can help you with? You are, of course, also welcome to meet with Luna Dierdra who is filling in for now.”
“Ah, yes, Alpha. That is part of where our concerns lie… Not that we would presume to question your judgment, but Luna Dierdra seems very young, and some of the village women seem to think that she’s pressing Luna Avery too hard…”
I had heard enough, and I rapped on the door, then breezed into the room carrying my tray of tea and fixing a glare on the tall man standing next to Gideon’s desk. The villager jumped at my entrance, and I felt pleasure at having caused him to feel anxious by arriving while he was complaining about me. The impudence!
I placed my tray on Gideon’s desk and gracefully poured him a cup, being sure to press my slight bump against his arm as I did so.
“Good morning, Alpha,” I murmured seductively, and leaned down to press a kiss to his temple, while glaring at the villager, “Anything I can help with?” I made sure to note his features so that I could find out his name later.
He would be sorry he crossed me…
