The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 165

Chapter 165

Funny, she was the one who had been trying to force me out…

I shook my head, feeling the weakness in my body quickly advancing as this altercation continued. Dealing with Dierdra was wearying on the best of days, but with my body still healing, and the continued harm I’d received at her hands, I was finding my strength flagging.

I struggled to find words to refute her accusations. Gideon was still subdued, staring at Dierdra as she wept and whimpered.

“You were supposed to h-h-help meeee!” Dierdra wailed, “Not hate me because I am a rogue! It’s not my fault I was captured by th-the Rogue King”

“No, I-” I started to say but Dierdra cut me off.

“You’re the Luna! You’re supposed to protect me!” She sank to the floor, “I would do anything for my mate while you only desire him for what he will do for you!” Dierdra threw her words in my face with venom, “I would step aside if I thought you were anything but a gold digger!” She pointed her finger at me, shaking, as she said the last bit.

Furious, I stared at her knowingly and she flinched from my gaze. I was baffled that she was even pretending she was willing to step aside. Gideon, too, appeared shocked at her words. He took a step towards Dierdra and stared down at her, looking confused with how to proceed.

I needed to respond, but what could I say? If Gideon truly expected me to prove I wasn’t a golddigger, how could I do so? After all, I had asked him for the divorce and he had refused.

He was the one detaining me here indefinitely. The only thing I expected of him was to help me retrieve my mother from the Rogue King’s clutches.

I lifted my eyes to stare at Gideon helplessly. Dierdra was the aggressor, but she was also teaching a masterclass in diversion. If I berated her now, it would only play into her strategy.

“Gideon…” I pleaded. I needed him to step in, to bring truth to this situation. He had to know that I wasn’t a golddigger. Had I not tried to please him every chance I got?

I had done the duties of Luna as best I could. I had stayed by his side at the Alpha Ball. I had even welcomed him into my bed…

He was the one who had abandoned me for dead in the forest. He was the one who refused to listen when I tried to warn him about what Dierdra really was, and who was willing to bend the rules for her while he held me to the strictest standard.

It was all too much, my body couldn’t take much more of this strain.

I began to tremble on my feet, as darkness flickered at the edges of my vision. Shadows seemed to rise from the corners of the room as the light dimmed and I swayed in place.

I needed release. I needed rest. I needed to know that I was safe and that everything would be all right.
