Chapter 145
Did I? I squinted down this hallway that was equally dimly lit to those downstairs. I supposed most wolves were pretty decent at seeing in the dark, so perhaps they were trying to save in candle costs.
I took another step forward and the walls swam disconcertingly, I found I was leaning against Reynaud quite strongly, in an attempt not to fall.
“I, ah… I seem to be having rather some trouble…” I faltered.
“Perhaps you need to sit down?” I felt Reynaud’s hands on my shoulders, steering me towards a curtained alcove nearby, “Get your bearings and all that.”
“Yes, that sounds good,” his suggestion was so helpful, I beamed at him and watched his handsome face split into a matching grin.
I found myself fixating on his eyes. They were that bright green but in the shadows of the alcove, they looked so strangely dead and flat.
“Your eyes!” I mumbled, “Your eyes are dead.”
“…what?” Reynaud froze in the act of sitting on the seat next to me.
“Yes your eyes don’t sparkle,” a part of me realized that I was speaking nonsense, but somehow I couldn’t seem to stop myself, “Why is that? What happened to you?”
He seemed to be pulling away from me then and I realized I had said something rude.
“Oh my goodness, I don’t know what I’m saying,” I laughed at myself, and then laughed at how absurd it was that I was laughing. Reynaud didn’t laugh, however. He seemed to be staring into the darkness.
“I… need to go check something,” he murmured, “sit here until you feel better.”
“Oh! You have to go!” I giggled again, even though it wasn’t funny at all, “Well I’ll be here.”
I closed my eyes and leaned back against the sofa behind me. I heard the curtains around us pull shut, and then I heard someone come in.
“You’re back!” I smiled and stretched out my arms, “I thought you were leaving me for good.”
“I would never do that,” Reynaud’s voice sounded lower and more gruff, “We need to get you to your
room.”
“Ok!” I smiled and reached for the Alpha’s arm to help myself up, then gasped as strong arms lifted my whole body off the seat instead, “Woah! You’re so strong!”
He didn’t respond, and the lights were swimming so strangely that I buried my head in his lapels as he carried me down the hallway and opened a door into a set of rooms.
The sun had set long ago, and the room was dark, but the Alpha’s hands gripped me tightly as he moved through the rooms with confidence. I felt him lay me down on a soft surface and realized it was a bed.

“Oh that feels nice,” I sighed comfortably.
“You should rest,” that low rumble of a voice spoke again.
“I should,” I agreed, “But please don’t leave me here alone. I’m so tired of being alone.”
He didn’t say anything, and I felt awkward hearing that hesitation.
“Are you sure?” the Alpha asked again, “I don’t want to take advantage.”
Something surged in me, a warm heat. I gasped at its delicious rush. I hadn’t felt this way since…
