The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140

Instead I watched as he and Dierdra drifted around the room, chatting with other couples and occasionally dancing.

Jealousy and hurt began to rise within me. Gideon had said I looked beautiful, but I began to feel like there must be something wrong with how I looked, that none of the other men were approaching me at

all.

Finally, a lone Alpha broke from the crowd and swayed towards me, weaving between couches and flashed me a smile that was both handsome and kind.

“Luna, you look like your legs could use a stretch. You must have come quite a long way. Would you like

to dance with me?”

I gave him a grateful smile, “That would be lovely, thank you.”

He bowed gracefully and hooked my hand through his arm, patting my hand as we drifted back towards the dance floor. His arm under mine was firm and muscled, and his movements were respectful as we stepped into the dance.

“What is your name?” I tipped my head back to look up into his face. His eyes were bright green, in contrast with his wavy red hair.

“Reynaud, Luna. Yours?”

“I’m Avery.”

He smiled at me, and whirled me around the corners of the dance floor. I swayed along with his movements. I wasn’t a great dancer, but he was good at leading, and it was easy to let his hands guide me into the right spaces between the other dancers.

“You seemed a bit left out,” my dance partner said as we twirled.

“I suppose I was, a bit,” I responded.

“That’s a shame, I can’t imagine leaving a woman like you on the sidelines,” Reynaud gave me that smile again and bent his head a bit closer to mine, “I couldn’t imagine leaving you ever, to be honest.”

I laughed awkwardly, not sure whether he was just flirting, or offering a censure of Gideon, or both.

My laughter stopped as the next spin brought me face to face with the Nightwolf Alpha, Dierdra in his arms. For a moment, the music faded from my ears, and I was locked in to Gideon’s black stare, then it resumed again and Reynaud whirled me away.

“You’re trembling,” Reynaud frowned, “are you cold?” He wrapped his arms tighter around me, placing his hand flat on my back as though he could warm me up.

Suddenly he stopped dancing, and I was forced to stop as well. I turned my head to find Gideon standing in our path.

“Your dance is over,” he said.

“Alpha Nightwolf,” Reynaud smirked, “I don’t believe we’ve met before.”

“I know who you are,” Gideon snapped, “Avery, to me.”

Confused, I released Reynaud’s hand and went to step away, but he did not release me.

“The Luna and I were enjoying our dance,” Reynaud said pointedly, “perhaps you could take the next one?”

Gideon stepped closer, head lifted, “I take whatever, whomever, and whenever I choose.” His hand closed on my wrist and he yanked me away from Reynaud, folding him against his side roughly.

Around us, the dancers had stopped, and were staring as the two Alphas considered each other for a long moment. Then Reynaud bowed and faded into the crowd, and Gideon hauled me off the dance floor

and over to a couch.

“Sit,” he commanded.

I did so, but a second later he went to turn back to the dance floor.

“Wait!” I called, “Are you just… leaving me?”
