The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 134

Chapter 134

A movement at the edge of the arena caught my eye, and I turned to see Gideon stalking into the training grounds, his gaze fixed on lan and I where we trained.

I froze, which caused lan to glance over. He didn’t back away immediately, “Would you like to end our practice, Luna?” he murmured in my ear.

“No.” I said loudly, “Training is important, and the Alpha has made it clear where we stand regarding romance. He has Dierdra now, and no claim to my body, emotions, or who I spend my time with.”

Gideon’s keen hearing would certainly have picked up my words, and I saw him stiffen as he leaned against the wall, watching us.

Behind me, lan gave a low huff that was half-amusement, half-pain, “You play a dangerous game, Luna, but I can understand it,” His expression was pained as we turned to face each other and walk to the next group of equipment.

“Have things gotten any better with her?” I asked, curiously, “I am sorry that I have not been a very good friend since you told me. I have had… other distractions.”

“Understandable,” lan forgave easily, “but no, Jessica continues to reject my advances, despite the way I can feel our wolves pulling towards each other. She refuses to talk to me.”

“I am sorry,” I said, with genuine empathy, “are the wolves always correct?”

lan frowned at the question, “It’s very rare that a wolf rejects their true mate. Usually it is our human sides that get in the way, and our pride. Sometimes I know she goes out of her way to run into me, though. I think she enjoys tormenting me.”

“It does appear that way,” I said drily, as more pack members trickled into the training grounds. The sun was rising, and the mist was burning away. Some had come to do training of their own, but it was obvious also that news had spread about lan, Gideon, and I being present.

“Speak of the devil,” I said in a low voice as Jessica and her entourage of snooty women also entered the arena, dressed in workout clothes, “Did you know she would be here?”

“Yes,” lan shot me a rueful grin, “and I thank you for helping me work up a sweat before she arrived,” he struck a body-builder pose that was so ridiculous that I had to laugh.

As I did, I saw Gideon’s head swivel in my direction, and felt those piercing eyes boring into me.

“Shall we give them a good show?” I whispered, and lan’s grin broadened.

“As you wish, Luna,” he winked, “but I’m not going to go easy on you, just because we have an audience.”

He stood in the middle of one of the wrestling circles and beckoned at me to stand opposite.

“Let’s see if you can take me down.”

lan had mass, muscle, and height on me. My first few grappling attempts were pathetic at best, but soon we were both grunting as I managed to knock him off balance and clamber on top of him, binding his legs with my own and trying hard to wrench his arm backwards towards me in an arm bar.

There were quite a few pack members gathered around the arena, watching us, I realized. I could hear their murmuring as they watched us wrestle. Gideon looked furious, while Jessica was feigning indifference, but I could see her glancing in our direction out of the corner of her eye as she pretended to examine the weights on the weight rack.

“So close,” lan panted, breaking my hold and flipping me onto my back in the dirt, pinning my wrists with his hands and my hips with his own.

He glanced down at me, spread beneath him, appreciatively and drawled “if you would like to give a convincing moan for the benefit of our watchers now, I won’t object…”
