The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 101

Chapter 101

“There is no room for emotion in what happens between an Alpha and his Luna.” Gideon said sternly, “You have given your promise. A good Luna has no room for jealousy, I admit I’m surprised.”

Easy for him to say. This coming from the man who had been furious at me every time I got close to another man!

Curse this hypocritical Alpha, curse my spell, curse his fated mate with terrible timing, and curse me for being stupid enough to start to fall for him!

I could only shake my head. He seemed to take this for an agreement because he stepped away and opened the door for me.

I fled into the hallway and back up the stairs to the living quarters.

I was unlocking the door to my room, wiping the tears from my cheeks when I heard a soft voice behind me,

“So you’re his Luna.”

I turned to see the young woman who had fallen into Gideon’s arms. His mate, Dierdra.

She was standing in the doorway of Gideon’s room, wrapped in one of his shirts. Her hair was loose and rumpled and she looked like she had just woken up. Her skin was still bruised and scraped from her ordeal.

I hadn’t realized she had been staying in his room.

“Yes.” I said simply.

She walked towards me, and I forced myself not to shrink away. Dierdra’s eyes were wide and vulnerable as she approached.

Remember, I reminded myself, she’s also strugging here.

“Could I… ask a favor?”

“Of course.” I bit out, hands clenching at my sides.

The collar of Gideon’s shirt was oversized on her unbuttoned at the top, and it clearly showed the mark on her neck. I couldn’t help but stare at it.

It reminded me of the mark I, too, wore. Those large Alpha canines were distinctive.

The Moon Goddess had obscured mine shortly after my arrival, I had thought it had been a sign of her favor for pairing with Gideon.

I guess I had been mistaken about the Goddess’ intentions for me.

“I feel awkward asking this…” Dierdra rubbed at her neck in embarrassment, “but I heard that you’re the herbalist in the pack and there’s no current doctor.”

I blinked at that. I hadn’t realized that I had supplanted Hudson so quickly, but I supposed it

was true.

“You see, I wasn’t expecting…” she paused awkwardly, “Well, I guess I’m trying to say that I don’t want to be expecting… not yet. Do you… have a way to help me with that?”

I flinched. She was asking me for contraceptives. For her and Gideon. Ouch.

“I… ah…” I could tell my face was turning red, “I can make you something…” I had a hard time meeting her eyes. Of course she and Gideon would be intimate soon, she was his mate!

“Oh thank you!” Dierdra gushed, “We haven’t… er… not yet, but soon, I expect! Or, I don’t want to expect…”

We stared at each other awkwardly.

“Well…” I said.

She laughed nervously, “Gideon said you were a gifted healer. That must be handy. We were in the woods so long I was starting to think I would die there. If we’d had someone like you, that would have been so much better.”

I felt a guilty pang. If Gideon hadn’t saved me, I would have been trapped like she had been. It was only luck that had spared me the same fate.

“I am not that good at it.” I confessed, “But I am trying to improve. Do you… need healing?”

“Oh! Well…” She looked flustered, “No, I’m sure I’m ok. My wounds will heal in time. Wolves heal fast, don’t we?”

“Here, let me try.” I offered. The least I could do would be to try and offer her some sympathy now. Worst case scenario, nothing happened.

I reached out my hand towards her and tried to summon that feeling I’d felt in the woods with Gideon. This was the first time I’d tried it on someone since then. I felt that same warmth begin to flow from my fingers towards her.

It was working!

My joy at success overrode the awkwardness of the situation. I began to direct the healing towards her injuries. As I did, something strange happened. I saw the mark on her neck flicker for a second.

“Huh, your mark…!” I said out loud.
