Grandma Jill looked straight at David. “Mr. Harmon, trust me, the Irvine family really doesn’t want trouble with you. But here’s the thing, you’re not taking Jessa today. You’re not touching any of us. Every single member of the Irvine family is walking out of here safe. That’s a promise.”
She sounded so sure, so certain, like nothing in the world could shake her.
Lilly let out a cold laugh. “Mrs. Irvine, you’re pretty full of yourself. Mr. Harmon and Ella are both standing here, and you actually think your family will just walk away?”
Fiona chimed in, “You used to treat Mr. Harmon like your biggest protector. Now that you’ve lost him, you’ve still got this much attitude?”
Grandma Jill just scoffed. “If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try us.”
Ella watched the Irvines, her cool gaze flickering for just a second. She knew them far too well. The way Grandma Jill was holding herself, it was like she was hiding something. She always had a backup plan.
David’s face hardened. He waved his hand. “Take them. All of them.”
His bodyguards moved in right away, closing in on Grandma Jill.
Grandma Jill’s eyes darted to Peter, anxious now. “Peter, has that important guest arrived yet?”
Important guest? Ella’s eyes narrowed. Could the Irvines have called in someone from the Capital?
Peter glanced at his watch. “He should be here any minute.”
Rachel gave Ella a sly smile. “Ella, you thought you planned for everything, didn’t you? But you never saw our biggest card coming.”
Ella frowned. “What card?”
