If he had a girlfriend, would he treat her that gently too?
Oh god, what am I even thinking?
Lilly snapped out of her daydream, realizing she’d been lost in thoughts of Jace all over again. Her cheeks burned hot. What was going on with her?
…
She barely slept that night. By the time she made it to Central College the next morning, she was already running late.
When Lilly got to the quad, the place was packed. People were everywhere, surrounded by flowers and balloons. In the middle of it all, Lucas was down on one knee in front of Sarah, holding a huge bouquet of roses.
“Sarah, from the moment I first saw you, I fell for you. Will you be my girlfriend?”
Sarah was wearing a pretty skirt, her face glowing with happiness. She nodded, looking like she might explode with joy. “Yes, I will.”
Lucas stood, cupped her face in his hands, and kissed her right there in front of everyone.
Sarah giggled, looking shy and sweet, but then her eyes landed on Lilly. Suddenly she seemed nervous. “Lilly…”
Lucas turned too, pulling Sarah behind him like he was protecting her. “Lilly, you saw it, right? Sarah said yes. We’re together now.”
Lilly let out a cold laugh. “Well, that’s nice. Guess Sarah doesn’t have to be the other woman anymore.”
Sarah’s expression darkened for a split second.
“Lilly, you can’t just call Sarah the other woman.” Jessa stepped forward, her tone sharp.
She walked up to Lilly, a smug smile on her lips. She’d been waiting for a chance to get back at Lilly for what happened at the Lynch family’s place, and now she was going to enjoy it.
“Lilly, you’ve always had that birthmark on your face, and Lucas has always been the hottest guy on campus. You know exactly how you two got engaged. Everyone knows it was just something your families arranged. Lucas never even felt anything for you.”
The crowd immediately started whispering.
