After waving goodbye to Cedric and Sarah, David and Jessa stepped out of the bar. David turned to her. “Jessa, I’ll have someone drive you home.”

Jessa tilted her bright, pretty face up at him. “David, I don’t want to go home tonight. I want to go to your place.”

She’d been thinking things over lately. Maybe she shouldn’t have been so old-fashioned, waiting until marriage before letting David get close to her. He was a normal guy with needs, after all. If she kept holding back, it was only natural he might be tempted by someone else.

That was how Ella had managed to get to him, sneaking into his life when he was feeling lonely. So tonight, Jessa wanted to make her intentions clear, hoping David would see her differently.

David stared at her for a moment, his lips barely curving. “I have to work late at the office tonight. I really can’t see you. I’ll have someone take you home, okay? Be good.”

Jessa’s expression fell. She tried to hide her disappointment. “Alright. I’ll just go, then.”

She got into the car and left.

Aiden came over, opening the back door of the Rolls-Royce for David. He slid into the seat and the car glided smoothly through the city. David settled back, flipping through some documents. Suddenly, his phone buzzed with a string of notifications.

He glanced down. They were alerts from his exclusive black card.

“Dear VIP member, your card was charged 1200 dollars at 1996 today.”

“Dear VIP member, your card was charged 16 dollars at McDonald’s today.”

“Dear VIP member, your card was charged 8 dollars at Sweet Memory Ice-cream today.”

Ella and Lilly were out exploring the snack street, and every little thing they bought was showing up right on David’s phone.

The amounts were tiny. Sixteen dollars, eight dollars, six dollars, even one for just two dollars. Ella had even bought herself a sweet little pudding.

David scrolled through the notifications, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, he could still hear her voice. “David, I don’t love you anymore.”
