The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 266

Ella honestly never thought he’d come back. After hearing how Jessa demanded his attention over the phone, she figured he’d be gone in a heartbeat.

Jessa was always his favorite, the one he would drop everything for. Back then, even when Ella was in trouble, a single call from Jessa was enough to pull him away. This was the first time he hadn’t rushed to her side.

Given Jessa’s temper, she was probably losing it tonight.

David looked at Ella. “What were you thinking about just now?”

He’d been watching her quietly, noticing the way she sat with her head down, completely lost in her own world. For a second, he remembered that girl from years ago, the one hiding out in a cave. She’d been just as quiet, just as alone. It made him want to take care of her, to wrap her up and keep her safe.

He wasn’t sure why, but he kept seeing that girl in Ella.

Ella didn’t want to talk about it. “I wasn’t thinking about anything.”

David let it go. He glanced down at his shirt and pants, still damp from when she accidentally spilled her water. “My clothes are wet.”

Ella instantly grabbed some tissues and started dabbing at him. “I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to spill it.”

His white shirt was soaked, sticking to his skin and showing off the lines of his muscles underneath. Ella kept wiping, moving lower, past the black leather belt at his waist, and onto his wet pants.

“Ella.”

His voice was low and rough, right above her.

She didn’t even look up, just kept fussing over his clothes. “What?”

“Are you doing this on purpose?”

Wait, what?

Ella froze. When she finally looked down and saw the obvious bulge in his pants, her cheeks exploded with color.

She jumped back, flustered. “I swear, I didn’t do it on purpose…”

David gave her a long look. “My clothes are soaked. I’m going to take a shower. My assistant will drop off some fresh clothes in a bit. Just bring them in when they get here.”
