David’s face stayed perfectly calm. “What do you want?”
Monica glanced at him, all shy and sweet. “Mr. Harmon, tomorrow’s my birthday. I want to throw a party. Would you come?”
Lately Monica was the “it girl,” every move of hers tracked by cameras and obsessed fans. If David Harmon, Rockford Bay’s richest and most mysterious businessman, showed up at her party, she’d be set for life.
Ella’s clear eyes lingered on David. He just nodded. “Alright.”
He said yes to Monica’s party.
Monica’s face lit up in delight. “Thank you!”
“Since you’re pregnant, you should rest. Go home and take care of yourself.”
Hearing even this bit of concern made Monica beam brighter. She put a protective hand over her belly. “Okay, Mr. Harmon, I’ll go. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of our baby. See you tomorrow.”
Before leaving, she shot Ella a smug, challenging look and swept out with her assistant, practically glowing.
David crossed the room to Ella. He stared at her, his gaze fixed on her delicate face.
“Mr. Harmon, what are you looking at? Don’t look at Ella!” Lilly snapped.
“Shouldn’t you be focusing on Monica? Congrats, you’re going to be a dad!” Fiona chimed in.
David ignored their sarcasm. He reached out and grabbed Ella gently but firmly by the wrist. “Come with me.”
He started to walk away, pulling her with him.
Ella didn’t want anything to do with him right now. She tried to break free. “Let go!”
“Mr. Harmon, what are you doing? Let her go!” Lilly and Fiona protested, trying to block his way.
