David was silent, his face impossible to read. Monica had no idea what was going through his mind.

“Mr. Harmon, it was me that night. It’s my first time with a man…”

Before she could finish, David slammed his foot on the gas. The car shot forward, leaving Monica standing there, her words swallowed by the roar of the engine.

“Mr. Harmon!” she called out, her voice shaky and desperate.

Left alone, Monica felt her heart pounding with fear. What if David knew the truth? The thought made her knees weak.

Suddenly, two men in black suits appeared out of nowhere. They grabbed Monica by the arms, not bothering to be gentle.

She screamed, twisting in their grip. “Who are you? Let go of me!”

“Get in. Ms. Irvine wants a word,” one of them barked.

Before Monica could protest, they shoved her into the back of a sleek black van. When she looked up, she saw Jessa sitting across from her. Jessa’s beauty was striking, and right now her eyes were icy cold.

Monica’s heart sank. She’d heard plenty about Jessa. In Rockford Bay, everyone knew Jessa was the girl David truly cared about.

Ella was just Mrs. Harmon by name, barely even in the picture. Monica never worried about her.

But Jessa was a different story.

“Ms. Irvine,” Monica stammered, trying to sound polite.

Jessa’s eyes swept over her. “So, you’re the girl who spent the night with David? Word is, he’s been throwing all kinds of resources your way, turning you into some sort of star.”

“I…”

Jessa let out a cold laugh. “You must have a lot of men chasing after you these days. Since you seem to enjoy sleeping around so much, maybe I’ll just sell you to the red-light district. How does that sound?”

Monica’s whole body shook. “Please, Ms. Irvine, don’t…”
